Komiža: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture

Kaštel Komuna is a 16th-century fortress on the shore of Komiža. Venetian authorities built it with revenue from Komiža’s fishermen to defend the town against possible attacks by Turks and pirates.

The Church of St. Mary's Gusarica was built on the coast of Komiža in the mid-16th century. Its Renaissance design consists of three interconnected churches with three connected triangular façades.

The Ivan Vitić Cultural Centre is a modernist pavilion that connects the barracks of Rogači with Komiža’s fishing settlement. From the 16th century onward, Komiža became the fishing center of the island of Vis. Also associated with the town is a fast type of fishing boat called a Gajeta, also known as a Falkuša.

The Geopark Visitor Centre is located in Komiža at Batuda 2. It provides information about the rocks of Vis, its natural and cultural heritage, traditions, and heritage preservation.

The Viški arhipelag Geopark has three geotrails: Geostaza Komiža, Geostaza Biševo, and Geostaza Vis–Rukavac. The Komiža–Zagrebenje–Oključna hiking trail begins on the shore of Komiža. The Komiža–Dragodid–Široko Brdo–Zagrebenje–Komiža route leads to a plateau with views of the northern coast of Vis and the Split Archipelago.

Nature and Water

Kamenice is a pebble beach in Komiža with cold-water springs and shade from tamarisk trees.

The Blue Cave on Biševo is described as 8.3 km from Komiža; access is by a small boat through a narrow passage, where reflected sunlight creates a blue-silver glow.
