Makarska: Hotels and accommodation

Culture

The Gradski muzej Makarska houses cultural and historical artefacts ranging from archaeological finds to contemporary works of art. The museum is housed in the historic Baroque Tonoli Palace. The Malacological Museum of the Franciscan monastery displays shell collections from the Adriatic and around the world; more than 3,000 shells are exhibited.

The Cathedral of Saint Mark was built in several phases between 1700 and 1766, houses artistic heritage and offers extensive views from the outside. Kalalarga is the oldest and most important street in the historic centre of Makarska. It has stone paving and is characterised by Dalmatian architecture.

The Maestrale programme includes guided costume tours through Makarska's old town, accompanied by storytelling and performances by local singing and folklore groups.

Nature

The Sveti Petar peninsula has Mediterranean vegetation, winding paths and views of the Adriatic and Mount Biokovo.

The Osejava peninsula has a pine forest, paths to secluded beaches and viewpoints, as well as opportunities for relaxation, hiking and cycling. Nugal Beach is a small cove south of Makarska. It is surrounded by cliffs and pine forest and can be reached on foot or by boat.

Family

The Makarska Observatory is located on a small hill in the city centre near the sea and is described as Croatia's newest observatory. Astro Park Makarska includes a scientific children's playground inspired by the solar system.
