Župa: Hotels and accommodations

Župa is one of only three villages on the northern side of Biokovo connected with shepherds’ mountain settlements, reflecting the mountain’s historic pastoral landscape. Those wishing to book a hotel in Župa can continue their accommodation search afterward.

Nature

A Biokovo hiking route from Župa/Roglići to Čulija, Sutvid and Sv. Rok takes approximately 3.5 hours and is classified as moderate.

Gradska Spila is located in the nearby area of Župa, approximately 200 metres west of the centre of Župa towards the Biokovo mountain range. Draž Brdo, Manastirina, Nogata Pećina and Sutvid are also located in the nearby area of Župa.

Culture

The “Academician Josip Roglić” Visitor Centre in Župa opened in October 2022 in a former public school building. Individual visitors can visit the centre during seasonal opening hours; outside the season, visits are possible by arrangement.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist and its archaeological site in Župa are classified as a single protected cultural property under registration number Z-5534. The church was built in 1600 and rebuilt in 1906 after its destruction. It contains nine stained-glass windows by Josip Botteri Dini depicting the central mysteries of the faith and the patron saints.

A prehistoric hillfort at Takalo in Župa has been designated an archaeological site.

History

Near Župa, in Čulija, lies the “Academician Josip Roglić” mountain lodge. It is a reconstructed former stable owned by the Roglić family from Župa. The mountain lodge opened in 2006 on the occasion of Josip Roglić’s 100th birthday.
