Coast

Janica 1 Beach is partly sandy and partly paved with concrete and is located in the center of Pakoštane. Punta Beach near the center of Pakoštane has a pebble beach and a sandy seabed; both make it easy to enter the sea. Pilatuš Beach combines sand and pebbles with small coves and shade from pine trees and is located about 1 km northwest of the center of Pakoštane. Bužakovina Beach offers fine, powdery sand and shallow, child-friendly water in a deep bay 500 m west of Pakoštane.

Vrgada Island is connected to Pakoštane by a regular boat service and offers sandy and pebble beaches.

Nature

The Crkvine Information Center at the ornithological reserve of Vrana Lake is located between Pakoštane and Vrana; from Pakoštane, it can be reached in the direction of Vrana via the Adriatic Coastal Road after 2.4 km. It lies in the northwestern part of the nature park, in the ornithological reserve at the entrance to the wooden educational trail “Birds of Vransko Lake”. The ornithological reserve on Vrana Lake was designated in 1983 and covers 8.83 km².

A cycling route in Vrana Lake Nature Park leads from Prosika via the area around Drage and Pakoštane toward Crkvine. From the Kamenjak viewpoint, there is a view of the Kornati Archipelago, Murter Island, Pirovac, Drage, and Pakoštane.

History

The Church of Sveti Justina was built in 1794 on the foundations of an older church. It stands on the island of the same name directly in front of the center of Pakoštane. The Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the center of Pakoštane was built of stone in 1906.

The remains of the Church of St. Mary have been preserved at the Crkvine archaeological site; it was probably built around 800 AD on the foundations of a Roman villa. Above the entrance to an old stone house in Bužak is a Glagolitic inscription by Jure Škiljić from 1606. Bužak is referred to as the heart of Pakoštane; records document a fortification there as early as 1597.

Activities

The Three Island Trail uses three small islands off Pakoštane as a special hiking and swimming route. The Three Island Tour begins at the Pakoštane pier or at Janice Beach; the islands can be reached by boat, pedal boat, or stand-up paddleboard.

The Crkvine Trail follows a historic route between the Vrana Field and the sea; the traditional route led to the port of Pakoštane and Bužakovina Bay. The Pakoštane–Prosika–Crkvine–Maškovića Han cycling route is 40.4 km long and begins in front of the main church in Pakoštane. Cyclists can also use, among other routes, a recreational cycling trail on a gravel road to Biograd and routes around Vrana Lake.

In Pakoštane, there are opportunities for diving, underwater fishing, freshwater fishing on Vrana Lake, windsurfing, sailing, and jet skiing, as well as a beach volleyball court.

Water and excursions

Boats depart from Pakoštane for Kornati National Park. Boat excursions from Pakoštane to Kornati National Park also visit Telašćica Nature Park.

Events

Mirisi Dalmacije is a long-standing summer event for visitors to Pakoštane.
