Sikovo: Hotel, ĐIRADA cycling route and local traditions

A specific cycling connection through Sikovo is the 14-kilometre ĐIRADA route. It runs through Sveti Filip i Jakov, Sikovo, Gornje Raštane and Donje Raštane, linking these place names into a clearly traceable route. This route theme is complemented by historical traces, church traditions and a cultural landscape shaped by olive groves and fertile fields.

Cycling and hiking trails

Matuljeva draga is considered a hiking and mountain biking trail. The path leads downhill towards Sikovo; on some sections, different types of vegetation create natural “green tunnels”.

Culture and history

Sikovo is home to a parish church dedicated to Saint Nikola Tavelić. It was consecrated in the 1970s and is considered the first church to be consecrated during the communist period. Four patron-saint festivals are celebrated annually in Sikovo: in honour of Saint John, Saint Roch, the Assumption of Mary and Saint Nicholas. These four festivals go back to customs brought by the settlers when they established the settlement.

The place name also dates back a long way. Documents from the 12th century mention the property name Sichoua, which is associated with Sikovo. Another historical trace is formed by the ruins of Dvorine on the road between Sveti Filip i Jakov and Sikovo. They belong to a rectangular building with a floor area of 29 × 21 metres; the surviving walls are up to 3 metres high. The ruins are associated with the extension of the Church of Saint Roch on Rogovo.

Landscape and traditions

Sikovo’s cultural landscape includes numerous olive groves, which are owned by almost every family. The village lies between fertile fields; expansive green areas seem to stretch as far as the Velebit mountain range. This landscape is also associated with a culinary tradition: Pršut continues to be dried in Sikovo, although less often than in the past. It is offered to tourists who wish to experience the taste of this tradition.

During the comparison, the stated occupancy and included services can also be checked against the total price. Possible additional costs, payment dates and the deadlines for free or chargeable cancellation are also important, insofar as these are stated on the offer page.
