Branka: Hotels and accommodation

Branka is the first settlement on the Czech side through which the Mže flows. In the centre of the settlement, the river flows into Olšový Pond, which covers eight hectares.

Nature and water

There is a small beach on the northern shore of Olšový Pond that is also suitable for swimming with small children. You can also fish in Olšový Pond.

The waterfalls on the Mže near Branka are considered the only waterfalls in Český les. In the wooded valley between Branka and Horní Výšina, the Mže crosses stone cascades and forms several waterfalls; the best-known one is called Branka.

Activities

The Branka educational and cycling route is a 17-kilometre circular route with 11 stops. It starts and ends in Branka and is suitable for hikers, cyclists and cross-country skiers.

Culture and history

The consecrated Orthodox chapel in Branka serves the local Orthodox residents. It bears the name “Kaple Zesnutí přesvaté Bohorodice” and is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.

The Adler family’s button factory in Branka processed mother-of-pearl into buttons. Branka was first mentioned in writing in 1663; the current name has been used since 1945.

Getting there

Branka has a bus stop named “Halže, Branka”. There is a direct bus connection from Tachov, with a journey time of 30 minutes.
