Hřebečná: Hotels and accommodations
Hřebečná tells the story of a mining history spanning four centuries: The Hřebečná mining district documents 400 years of tin mining from the 16th to the 20th century. The Důl Mauritius mine was the largest tin mine in the Czech part of the Ore Mountains and was declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 2014. Tin from Hřebečná was exported to almost all of Europe via the markets in Nuremberg.
Culture
Among the oldest traces is the Bílá holubice adit, the “White Dove.” It is one of the oldest adits in the Zadní Hřebečná tin deposit and was probably driven at the beginning of the second half of the 16th century. In the upper Schneppova Pinka, it is also possible to trace the course of a greisen vein and part of the old surface-level adit, which was constructed in the second half of the 16th century.
Underground
During the tour of the Kryštof adit, visitors descend 12 vertical metres into the adit. Helmets, lamps, boots and coats are provided for the tour. The approximately one-hour tour follows a 400-metre-long route.
Landscape
The mining landscape of Hřebečná preserves characteristic relics of open-pit and underground tin mining. This also includes the mining water management system, which was established over an area of 3.5 km² from the 16th century onwards. It comprises drainage and water-supply ditches with a total length of more than 10 km.
The Schneppova Pinka is a terrain depression approximately 80 metres long, up to 20 metres wide and up to 20 metres deep. It was formed by open-pit and underground mining activities, followed by the collapse of mine workings, as early as before 1730.
Between Ryžovna and Hřebečná, a basalt quarry exposes columnar jointing in volcanic rocks that formed as a lava flow cooled.
