Dolní Cerná Studnice: Hotels and accommodations

Dolní Cerná Studnice has a rather mountainous character on the slopes of the Černostudniční hřeben ridge. Landscape, paths, and traces of history lie close together here.

Geographical setting

The Žernovník stream rises in Dolní Cerná Studnice, flows through Huť and Bratříkov, and joins the Jizera near Železný Brod.

The nearby surroundings of Dolní Cerná Studnice include Maršovicky vrch, Černá Studnice, and Pustina. Further afield in the region are Mariánská hora and Valdštejn Church.

Paths

An approximately 2 km walk leads from Dolní Cerná Studnice to Horní Černá Studnice; there is a lookout tower at the summit.

The Černá Studnice lookout tower is 26 metres high and accessible via 91 steps. When the lookout tower is closed, a rock 50 m away offers a partial view; it was already adapted as a viewpoint in 1885.

A high-level hiking trail leads to the “Berany” trail junction. The summit of Černá Studnice can be reached directly by car or bicycle; the described access route leads via Dolní Cerná Studnice.

Culture

An archaeological mining and processing site dating from the 6th millennium BC was discovered in Dolní Cerná Studnice. It is described as one of the oldest surviving landscape relics of mining in Central and Western Europe.

The source of the Žernovník was formerly surrounded by beeches whose trunks were covered with votive images.

An inn for travellers probably stood at the foot of Černostudniční kopec as early as the end of the 16th century.

The historic inn hosted dances, wedding celebrations, and school-leaving reunions in the 1960s; however, it burned down and was not rebuilt.
