Well-maintained and well-developed forest paths lead from Řídeč to a lookout pavilion below Dubová hora. In spring, cherry tree avenues bloom around Řídeč and are considered the largest in the surrounding area.

Nature and Seasons

The area around Řídeč is suitable for mushroom picking. In winter, cross-country skiing is possible when there is sufficient snow. Ice skating and ice hockey are played on a frozen pond in Řídeč.

Connections and Routes

Řídeč can be reached by regular bus service from Šternberk. Route 6009 runs from Velká Bystřice via Hlubočky, Jívová, Hraniční Petrovice, Horní Loděnice, Dalov, Šternberk, Dolní Žleb, Chabičov and Řídeč to Paseka. Route 6105 runs from Šternberk via Babice, Krakořice, Řídeč, Mutkov and Huzová.

Culture and History

The former school in Řídeč is a detached single-storey building with a rectangular floor plan, a half-hipped roof and a hexagonal lantern. A chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas stands at the upper edge of Řídeč.

The Oltářní kámen lies immediately below the blue-marked hiking trail from Řídeč to Chabičov. It is a large, flat slate stone that, according to an old local legend, is associated with Celtic rituals, secret Protestant services during the Thirty Years’ War, and meetings with Wallachian rebels.
