Culture and History

The Cerhonice manor farm served as an administrative center for the area on the left bank of the Vltava. Until the end of the 15th century, it was the only farm in the estate.

The Cerhonice farm experienced its greatest development after the mid-16th century; this also included the expansion of fish farming.

The Cerhonice château complex was created by rebuilding an older fortress and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The Chapel of Saint Lawrence, including its altar, has been restored. It is consecrated, and services are once again held there.

Until the First World War, a penitential procession took place every year on the first Sunday in June from Cerhonice to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross in the forests of Vráž and three identical chapels erected in a regular triangle around Cerhonice permanently commemorate a bloody event.

Alois Jirásek popularized the regional legend in his story “Ballada z rokoka”; the legend is sometimes incorrectly associated with Boudy.
