History and Culture
The beginnings of settlement in Mičovice date back to the first half of the 13th century; the village was founded on land belonging to Zlatá Koruna Monastery. The first written mention of Mičovice dates from 1400. The rural estate Mičovice No. 30 is designated as an immovable cultural monument.
In Frantoly, the Church of Saints Philip and James dates from the early 14th century; two years after a fire in 1754, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Traditional customs still preserved in the municipality of Mičovice include, among others, a Masopust procession. The beginnings of settlement and the documentary mention establish a chronological framework; the estate, church and Masopust point to different forms in which local history, architectural culture and living tradition have been expressed across the municipal area over long periods.
