Ostrolovský Újezd: Hotels and Accommodation
Ostrolovský Újezd combines a Renaissance fortress from the late 16th century with a much older history and a natural monument that protects plant communities with spring snowflakes. Thus, historical remains and a varied surrounding landscape come together in a small area.
Culture and History
The Renaissance chateau of Ostrolovský Újezd still stands in the village centre. Kryštof Kořenský z Terešova built a Renaissance chateau there in 1569. However, the village’s history goes back further: Ostrolovský Újezd is first documented in the 14th century under its former name, Oujezdec. A castle belonging to the Lords of Újezd already stood in the 14th century on a promontory above the Stropnice.
The medieval Újezdec castle site is also located in the surrounding area. It survives as an earthwork fortification with massive ditches. About 500 metres east of Ostrolovský Újezd, on the road to Borovany, stands the Výklenková kaple. The small brick wayside chapel dates from the mid-19th century and has been a protected monument since 3 May 1958. Another local curiosity is the “Spilka” inn, located in the cellar of a former brewery.
When planning a stay in Ostrolovský Újezd, you may wish to book a hotel.
Nature and Trails
Ostrolovský Újezd lies at a crossroads of marked hiking trails. The surrounding area offers a varied landscape and beautiful viewpoints. It is also possible to gather mushrooms and blueberries here. The Ostrolovský Újezd natural monument protects plant communities with spring snowflakes.
