Culture and History

The history of the village dates back at least to the Middle Ages: on 22 January 1308, Bavor III sold Pracejovice, together with a gold-panning site, a pond and meadows, to the Knights Hospitaller. The village is also closely associated with the important figure of Rudolf Beran. Rudolf Beran (1887–1954), who was born in Pracejovice, was chairman of the Czechoslovak government from 1938 to 1939 and subsequently chairman of the Protectorate government. His birthplace is located in Pracejovice.

The local building stock includes several notable structures. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the village green in Pracejovice was designed in the vernacular Baroque style and dates from 1898. The brick Sýpka at house number 17 is a state-protected monument, is considered the oldest building in the village and has a tiled roof. Švehlův dům at house number 13 bears a bust of Antonín Švehla.

Nature

In the vicinity of Pracejovice lies Bažantnice u Pracejovic, a remnant of floodplain forest in the Otava Valley with relatively well-preserved tree and herb layers. Bažantnice u Pracejovic is situated on the right bank of the Otava opposite Nový Dražejov and includes periodically flooded pools with a significant occurrence of amphibians and protected birds.
