Strašice: Hotels and accommodations

Culture

The village square is dominated by the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, which stands among mature lime trees. Its bell rings at noon and in the evening. A monument commemorating those who fell in the First World War also stands on the same village square. Strašice is also home to several preserved houses featuring 19th-century rural folk architecture.

A chapel with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is maintained on the bridge over the Kolčava. The Boží muka in Strašice are also part of the historic village landscape: they date from 1676 and were restored in 2024 based on a surviving image by an unknown painter. Today, the restored Boží muka stand in a slightly different location because the original wayside monument was permanently demolished in the 1950s to widen an intersection.

Nature

The Strašická lípa is a commemorative tree near a forester's lodge below the forest on the southern slope of Bloudím mountain. A campsite and a swimming pool were established along the Kolčava in a beautiful natural setting. A motorcycle gathering takes place on their grounds every July. Mushroom picking is also possible in Strašice.

The former mills on the Kolčava have not operated for several decades and have been converted into recreational facilities. The Na Šumavě inn at the Kolčava site provides refreshments.

History

Historical points of interest can also be found in nearby Škůdra. The chapel on the village square dates from 1831. The chapel on the hill in Škůdra stands about 300 metres north of the village square. According to legend, the ancient chapel was probably built in memory of Swedish soldiers who died during the invasion of the Prácheň region in 1645.
