Zvíkovské Podhradí: Hotels and Accommodation

Zvíkov Castle is located at the Orlík Reservoir, where the Vltava and Otava rivers meet, on a rocky promontory about one kilometre from Zvíkovské Podhradí. The castle complex, the rivers and the landscape around the town are therefore central to the local orientation.

Culture

Self-guided tours without a guide are available at Zvíkov Castle. The Chapel of St Wenceslas has been preserved in the architectural form it had in the 13th century. The Hlízová Tower is the oldest surviving structure in the Zvíkov castle grounds and was built around 1240.

The historic structures also include the stone bridge in Zvíkovské Podhradí, dating from the second half of the 18th century and said to have been built in 1777. It crosses a deep moat cut into the rock, has five arches and stands on tall pillars; a niche chapel is located on the bridge.

Water

The Zvíkovské Podhradí outdoor swimming pool has two heated children's pools and a larger pool for swimmers.

During the season, regular boat services operate on the Orlík Reservoir to Zvíkov Castle and Orlík Château.

Trails and Nature

Cycle Route No. 1149 ends in Zvíkov. The 150-kilometre Pootavská Cycle Route starts in Modrava in the Šumava region and ends in Zvíkov.

The mixed and coniferous forests around Zvíkovské Podhradí are ideal for hiking. The new riverside trail along the Otava and Vltava rivers provides information at twelve stops about the history, fauna and flora of the region.

The Orlík–Zvíkovské Podhradí educational trail is approximately 30 kilometres long and has 15 information panels.

It begins at Orlík Château and leads to Zvíkovské Podhradí; it can be divided into the Orlík–Nevězice and Nevězice–Zvíkovské Podhradí sections.
