Tskneti: Hotels and Accommodation

Tskneti is a local mountain climate resort and holiday destination, approximately 10 kilometres from Tbilisi. The town is located on the eastern flank of the Trialeti Range, in the Vere River valley, at an altitude of 800 to 1,100 metres above sea level. Tskneti has long been known as an area with country houses and as a holiday region.

Location and Climate

Tbilisi bus route 334 connects Tskneti with Delisi Metro Station. Bus route 354 first serves Tskneti’s inner streets and then continues along “Tsqnet’i Highway”.

Tskneti has a lower- and mid-mountain climate. Winters are moderately cold with little snow, while summers are moderately dry and warm. Local ventilation, cooling winds and green vegetation contribute to the cooler conditions. Even during summer heatwaves, Tskneti remains cool.

Nature

In 1935 and 1936, Tskneti was artificially planted with coniferous tree species. The combination of local ventilation, cooling winds and green vegetation shapes the area’s cooler conditions.

Culture and History

Tskneti’s intensive development began at the end of the 19th century. The resort’s infrastructure was developed during the Soviet era. In the 1960s and 1970s, Tskneti became an important suburban resort for Tbilisi.

The town’s religious buildings include three small churches dating from the 17th to the 19th century: the “David the Builder (Agmashenebeli)” Monastery, St George’s Church and St Nino’s Church. The monument to Maia Tskneteli in Tskneti is dedicated to a legendary figure in Georgian folklore. In accounts of the defence of her homeland in the 18th century, Maia Tskneteli is associated with courage and strategic thinking.

Things to Do

The monument to Maia Tskneteli is described as easily accessible and suitable for hiking on local trails. It is located in the peaceful upper part of Tskneti and in a historic part of the town surrounded by coniferous forest.

Nearby, in the direction of Kojori–Tabakhmela, there are hiking trails associated with battles from the past century.
