Geographical Location
Ózd is a town in northern Hungary, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, about 40 kilometres northwest of Miskolc and four kilometres south of the Slovak border.
Culture and History
The name Ózd was first recorded in 1272. The present-day town was formed in 1940 from Ózd, Bolyok and Sajóvárkony and was granted town rights in 1949. This development provides a clear point of reference for travellers interested in the local history of Ózd.
Ózd has a documented Jewish history connected with the town's Jewish community during the Second World War. In June 1944, the Jewish people of Ózd were deported to Auschwitz.
