Water and bathing

The Tiszaújváros Spa and Beach Bath has been classified as an interregional medicinal bath since 2001. The Tiszaújváros Spa and Beach Bath uses 65°C thermal mineral water that rises from a depth of 1,200 metres and has a relatively high salt concentration containing sodium chloride and hydrocarbonate. Covering just under 7 hectares, it features five pools with a range of attractions, a landscaped sunbathing lawn, sports courts, a playground, and a number of sales and service pavilions.

The swimming pool at the Tiszaújváros Sports Centre has a 25-metre pool with six lanes and a depth of 1.8 metres, and welcomes swimmers seven days a week.

Nature

The floodplain forests of Tiszaújváros, known as “Tiszaújvárosi ártéri erdők”, are designated as a Natura 2000 site. Along the Tisza section, the floodplain forests of Tiszaújváros comprise two areas of old, ash-rich mixed woodland with a total area of 24 hectares and provide a habitat for two endangered species: the scarce fritillary (Euphydryas maturna) and the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).

Buildings

The Tiszaújváros Reformed Church was consecrated on 16 October 1994 and its architecture was inspired by the belfries and bell towers of the Upper Tisza region.

The Roman Catholic Church of “Magyarok Nagyasszonya” in Tiszaújváros, completed in 1993, is classified as a protected architectural value under local regulations. It is a three-nave building with a cruciform floor plan and a 26-metre-high tower. Its transept and chancel windows were designed by the painter Tibor Bráda, who was born in Tiszaújváros.

The Greek Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (Urunk Színeváltozása) in Tiszaújváros has a polygonal foundation and a polygonal dome; its interior walls are completely covered with icons. It was consecrated on 11 August 1996.

The Reformed Church of Tiszaszederkény, in the Tiszaszederkény district of Tiszaújváros, was consecrated on 20 October 1799. The sanctuary of the Tiszaújváros Reformed Church measures 12 × 30 metres and can accommodate 400 people.

Landscape
