What experiences are there on the Danube?
At Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand, you can rent a range of watercraft: an SUP, a four-person canoe, a one-person kayak or a two-person kayak. This gives you several options for an outing on the water. If you would rather stay on shore, there is a playground halfway along the beach promenade, fully shaded by trees.
The Borsétány is another reason to visit the beach. This three-day festival takes place every year in early June and includes wine tastings, open-air film screenings and concerts. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, early June is the relevant time. The festival offers a different programme from the everyday opportunities for sports and play.
How do cycling and getting there fit into your plans?
The EuroVelo 6 runs just east of Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand. At Vác, the route connects to the cycle path towards the Danube Bend. If you want to factor a cycle route and activities on the water into your trip planning, there are two specific points to consider: the EuroVelo 6 route by the beach and its connection at Vác.

Which leisure activities suit your stay?
Katonadomb Leisure Park is open to everyone year-round. It has basketball and teqball courts as well as table tennis tables. The park also has a playground and a fitness area designed for adults. You can choose between ball and table games, time at the playground and fitness activities for adults.
Another playground is on the beach promenade at Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand. It is halfway along the promenade and fully shaded by trees. The two playgrounds are in different locations: one in Katonadomb Leisure Park, the other on the beach promenade. If you are travelling with children, you can take these options into account when choosing activities.
The Madárlátta Tanösvény nature trail has a different focus. Part of the trail was renovated in 2022, when it was also given its name. Along the route, interactive features illustrate the local flora and fauna. The trail is therefore a suitable destination for anyone who prefers to explore nature through stops like these.
What do the historic sites tell us?
In Alagimajor, part of Dunakeszi, are the ruins of the church of the medieval village of Alag. The foundations and parts of the sanctuary’s side walls remain. The site gives a tangible impression of which structural remains of the former village are still here today.
The late Roman harbour fort of Dunakeszi represents a different era. It was built in the 370s during the reign of Emperor Valentinian, as a counterpart to the fort on the Horány side. The harbour fort has an exhibition with no regular opening hours; visits can be arranged by phone.
A private museum run by Attila Hirschberg is also dedicated to Roman life. He operates it in his basement with support from the Magyar Nemzeti MĂşzeum. The exhibition offers insights into Roman life and displays everyday objects found there. Together, the harbour fort and church ruins provide several different ways to explore history, from medieval church architecture to Roman finds.
