Culture

The Reformed Church of Nagykálló is a Baroque building erected around 1710 and a landmark that characterizes the townscape.

The Szilágyi István Memorial House and Local History Collection currently houses an ethnographic and local historical collection. The cultural heritage also includes the Kállai Kettős, a sung and danced tradition from Nagykálló that remains vibrant to this day and has been preserved for four hundred years.

The Kállai Kettős Folk Dance Festival has been held every two years in Nagykálló since 1971. The dance of the Kállai Kettős is one of the few dramatic dances in the Hungarian-speaking region.

When the Korányi Frigyes Memorial House opened in 2005, the first furnished room presented the history and choreography of the dance ballad Kállai Kettős. The Ámos Imre Gallery provides written information in English, German, Russian, and Polish. Visits to the Korányi Frigyes Memorial House are possible by telephone appointment.

Nature

Nagykálló-Harangod is a 10-hectare hilly area of the Nyírség on the northern and northeastern borders of Nagykálló. Several individually named hills are also located in the area around Nagykálló: Hármas Hegy is a hill near Nagykálló, as are Szomjúhát, Tókató Hegy, and Pető-halom.
