Ezernieki: Discover the Lake, Nature and Culture

Ezernieki Beach is located on the shore of Ežezers and is a developed public beach. The administrative district of “Ezernieku pagasts” is included in Rāzna National Park. Ežezers lies in the municipalities of Ezernieku pagasts and Andzeļu pagasts in Krāslavas Municipality. In November 2006, the lake was included in Rāzna National Park. Therefore, the information about the national park refers both to the administrative district and to the lake. Ežezers is thus not assigned to just one municipality. For orientation, you should therefore distinguish between Ezernieki Beach, Lake Ežezers and the administrative district of Ezernieku pagasts; the names are not synonymous.

The 24 km section “Piļoru ozolu audze–Ežezers–Andzeļi–Jaundome–Dagda” is part of the “Ezertaka” hiking route and passes through Ežezers.

In the surrounding area, the nature trail of Jaundome Manor leads to Ežezers and provides insights into historical evidence from the manor era as well as the natural diversity of Latgale.

The three points of interest differ in their focus: Ezernieki Beach represents a developed public waterfront, the Ezertaka a clearly defined longer stage, and Jaundome the combination of manor-era heritage and natural diversity. They are located on or near Ežezers, but they are not the same offering.

A notable cultural destination is Bukmuižas Sv. Ludviga katoļu baznīca. The church was built in 1830 and is a Baroque church without a tower. It has five altars and is considered a nationally significant architectural monument. The year of construction, architectural form, furnishings and monument classification describe different characteristics of the same building.

The church also has a copy of the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary from Šiluva. The Ezernieku Saietu nams represents the local event culture. Traditional events, seasonal celebrations and social evenings for different generations are organized there. The church and the Saietu nams are clearly distinct: the church is an architectural and cultural monument, while events and celebrations take place at the Saietu nams. Nature and cultural interests in Ezernieki can therefore be explored through different places and topics.

What celebrations took place in Ezernieki?

Traditional Saint Ludwig celebrations took place in Ezernieki on the last weekend of August. This does not imply a date for another year.

What is available at “Papeles”?

At “Papeles”, walking paths, a fishing spot, a private beach and convenient parking spaces for cars are indicated. The location should therefore be considered separately from Ezernieki Beach.
