Vāne: Culture and Local History

Vāne Evangelical Lutheran Church is an architectural monument of state significance. Vānes muiža Manor House was built around 1870. For local orientation, a registered bus stop on the regional road P121 is also documented.

The present-day masonry church in Vāne was built from 1654 to 1663 during the time of Gothard Hening. The church therefore dates to the 17th century, while Vānes muiža Manor House was not built until the second half of the 19th century, around 1870. The historical context of the manor house also includes the Livonian chronicler Solomons Henings: he spent the final days of his life at Vānes muiža.

The Seno lietu krātuve collection began in summer 2015 with the exhibition “Vēsture zem putekļiem”. It was based on antiques, books, and household items donated by Airita and Ilmārs Hānbergs from the “Zeltiņi” farmstead. At its opening, the collection comprised three rooms and seven recorded reminiscences from Vāne residents about life in Vāne in the 20th century.

In addition to objects, personal memories are therefore also part of the documented history of the locality. Everyday life and local memory thus stand alongside the church and manor house.

The active recreation area at 4 Draudzības iela is equipped with swings, a carousel, a trampoline, a play structure, and fitness equipment. The specific facilities give families an additional point of reference when choosing a location, while the fitness equipment may also be of separate interest to other age groups.

As an additional event note, the monthly market “Ikmēneša tirdziņš Vānē” is relevant: several dates took place in 2025, and the market is also documented for 2026. The year references should be considered separately from any guarantee that the event will be held permanently.
