The “Iepazīsti Ziemupi” route begins at the Ziemupe community house and ends at the car park on the coast of Ziemupe. This car park is located by the sea near the centre and has information boards. A characteristic natural site is the Ziemupe juniper heath. It covers more than 2 hectares and contains 536 juniper trees. There is also a meadow with purple moor-grass and sand sedge near the juniper heath. Both the juniper stands and the meadow’s distinctive plant life are therefore central features of the site.
One notable individual feature is the Aužuļu lime tree. After its top broke off in 2005, it put down roots in the ground and developed new shoots. The Dzintara Trail runs parallel to the Baltic Sea coast and complements the natural experiences with a clearly coastal route.

The Dvēseles veldzes dārzs has a 530-metre-long barefoot trail. The surface changes every 10 metres, and the trail is additionally supplemented with obstacles of varying difficulty. In the same garden, a maze of ornamental shrubs covers 800 m². The two attractions differ significantly: the barefoot trail focuses on changing surfaces and obstacles, while the maze places spatial orientation at the centre.
Rūķupe is a special case when planning your itinerary, as the Santa Claus village can only be seen in December. This seasonal limitation distinguishes the site from Ziemupe’s landscape and cultural attractions.
What history do the community house and Jūras māja tell?
The Ziemupe community house was created by converting a manor barn-storehouse for the local educational and cultural society “Centība”. The first performances took place in the new Ziemupe community house in 1930. The site therefore combines its architectural origins with a specific early use for cultural life.
Jūras māja is a house of local stories about fishing boats burned during the Soviet era, ships washed ashore, escape routes to Gotland and Inge’s boat from Gotland. The exhibition on the second floor consists of objects from the homes of Ziemupe residents and conveys the history of the village. Military unit No. 90450 P was also located next to Ziemupe Church. These sites reveal different historical layers: everyday objects and stories stand alongside architectural and military-historical traces.
