Žalioji: Hotels and accommodations

The Trakai–Onuškis section of the Camino de Santiago runs through Žalioji and has been marked with the Camino de Santiago sign used in Europe, the Camino de Santiago symbol. For some travelers, wanting to book a hotel in Žalioji is part of planning their trip.

Culture

In the Butrimonių eldership is the brick Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Butrimonys. Its construction was interrupted by the First World War and was not completed until 1926. The church preserves paintings and folk art from the first half of the 19th century, as well as early works by the well-known artist Antanas Kmieliauskas, who came from the area around Butrimonys.

In the wider area around Žalioji, in the Butrimonių eldership, there is the fountain in the Butrimonys market square. It is shaped like an acrylic bottle, inside which a large vortex of water spins. After dark, the fountain lights up in various colors.

Also in the wider area around Žalioji, in the Butrimonių eldership, lies the triangular market square of Butrimonys. It is considered the only one of its kind in Lithuania and has been included in the Lithuanian list of urban planning and urban development monuments.

In the wider area around Žalioji, in the Butrimonių eldership, the Butrimonys Gymnasium Ethnographic Museum houses around 900 exhibits, hundreds of photographs, and an extensive numismatic collection from the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum also includes an exhibition entitled “Lino kelio”.

History

In the wider area around Žalioji, in the Butrimonių eldership, the Geruliai Hillfort is dated from the middle of the first millennium to the beginning of the second millennium. The hillfort has steep slopes 8–11 meters high and a 170-meter-long rampart.
