Local history and architectural heritage
Latežeris is described as an architectural monument. The village is a spontaneously developed linear settlement whose buildings and homesteads are arranged irregularly. Valuable buildings made of round or hewn logs, dating from the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century, have been preserved. Latežeris was first mentioned in 1820 and developed from two homesteads established in a state forest in 1812–1814.
An exhibition of woodcarvings is located in the center of the village of Latežeris. The wooden sculptures near Latežeris are associated with legends about the great flood of the Ratnyčia River in 1841. The Latežeris partisan bunker is located on the bank of the Ratnyčia stream. The partisan bunker was built in 1947 by Pranas Suraučius-Ąžuolinis, Bronius Kukauskas-Kiškis, and Bronius Sinkevičius-Paukštis; it was rebuilt in 1997 and again in 2004.
In the village of Naujasodė, Antanas Česnulis’ sculpture park offers walks among wooden sculptures, a windmill, a Rūpintojėlių wall, and figures from Lithuanian folklore.
