Culture

Astravas Manor is located in Astravas, a district of Biržai on the northern shore of Lake Širvėna by the Apaščia River. Its palace was built in 1862 with a belvedere tower and is a Romantic-era residence designed in the style of Italian villas.
Nature
Lake Širvėna is Lithuania’s oldest artificial body of water. It was created in 1575 by damming two rivers that flow through Biržai. The 525 m-long pedestrian bridge across Lake Širvėna connects Biržai with Astravas and is the longest pedestrian bridge in Lithuania. The repaired bridge leads visitors to the park of Astravas Manor and its palace.
The visitor center of Biržai Regional Park houses an exhibition about karst sinkholes, collapses, and geological processes. The Biržai Regional Park Directorate also offers the tourist route “Žemės gelmių muziejus”; it takes about three hours and is approximately 20 km long.
History
The Gubernija–Pasvalys narrow-gauge railway line was extended to Biržai in 1922. The preserved sections of the Biržai narrow-gauge railway complex are protected cultural heritage assets. The complex has historical, architectural, and landscape value.
