Prčanj: Hotels and Accommodation

Prčanj lies on the northeastern slope of the Vrmac Peninsula between Muo and Stoliv. Culture and History

Bogorodičin hram is the parish church of Prčanj and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The church was built from Korčula stone in the Baroque style. Its construction lasted 120 years and ended in 1909.

The Church of Saint Nicholas in Prčanj dates from the 18th century and has a library with approximately 4,000 volumes. The Old Parish Church on the slope of Vrmac dates from the 14th century. The Church of Saint John the Baptist is described as one of the oldest churches in Prčanj and the bay; it is also credited with a continuity of eight centuries at the same site. The remains of the Church of Saint Thomas in Prčanj date from the 4th century.

Bogorodičin hram contains two gilded altars described as unique in the Bay of Kotor. On the waterfront is the Palace of the Three Sisters, identified as a well-preserved example of Gothic secular architecture outside Montenegro's historic urban centers; historians date it to the beginning of the 15th century. A small art collection next to a church in Prčanj includes works by Trip Kokolja, Celestin Mate Medović, and Giovanni Battista Piazzetta.

Before the Church of the Nativity was built on the waterfront, the Old Parish Church above Prčanj housed an icon of the Virgin Mary that was visited by up to 6,000 worshippers on holidays. The branches of the hiking trails in the region around Prčanj are described as religious and pilgrimage routes. From the 17th to the 19th century, Prčanj's maritime fleet was among the largest in the bay. Ivan Vizin was one of the students taught by members of religious orders and experienced captains.

Paths and Landscape

A cross path from the coast of Prčanj to the Old Parish Church can be walked in approximately 30 minutes each way. The path to the Old Parish Church begins in Grasovo next to the Verona Palace, near the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

A path above Prčanj leads through cultivated areas with vineyards, orchards, and olive groves. They lie on grassy terraces separated from one another by dry-stone walls. The historic Muo–Prčanj–Gornji Stoliv hiking trail is described as a route that was already active in the Middle Ages. The connection between the old Glavati–Prčanj–Gornji Stoliv road and the coast is paved in the first section and laid out as a bridle path in the second.

Waterfront and Town Location

Several spots along Prčanj's waterfront promenade offer direct access to the bay for swimming. There is a small marina in Prčanj. Large stone palaces line the waterfront promenade. Local buses operating between Kotor and other settlements around the bay stop along the main road in Prčanj.
