Łubowo in Greater Poland brings together two very different churches and traces of an old postal route. The wooden Church of St. Nicholas has furnishings from several centuries; the former Protestant church, built in 1891, is an example of Neo-Gothic brick architecture. When choosing a hotel, its actual location relative to the two buildings matters more than a general mention of “culture nearby.”

St. Nicholas in wood

The Church of St. Nicholas stands in the centre of Łubowo, south of the road from Poznań to Gniezno. Its log construction and post-built tower set it clearly apart from the town’s Neo-Gothic brick building. The main altar, dating from the mid-17th century, depicts Mary with the Child. The baptismal font dates from the 16th century. The Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation, added in 1720, has an 18th-century altar. These dates refer to different parts of the church and should not be read as a single construction date.

Neo-Gothic church and local history

The Church of the Assumption of Mary was built in 1891 as a Protestant church and is listed as a historic monument. It is made of brick on a stone plinth and has a tall, three-storey tower with a steep pyramidal spire. Visitors to both churches can compare two materials and historical contexts. However, the facts do not establish that the interiors are open to visitors every day; opening hours and service times should be checked separately.

Łubowo was referred to as a town in the 15th and 16th centuries and was a stagecoach station between Poznań and Toruń in the early 17th century. This explains part of its historical role, but does not imply that a former coaching inn survives today. The churches are the specific sightseeing destinations described here.

Choose a hotel based on your sightseeing plans

If you want to explore architecture and local history, compare the address of any hotel you are considering with both churches and your travel route. Facilities, price and availability are provided only in the individual listing. A historic place name is not proof that a hotel is housed in a listed building. Also check whether you can actually visit the interiors on your travel dates. This makes Łubowo a worthwhile cultural stop without listing arbitrary attractions in the surrounding area.
