The name of the locality is documented in the historical forms Ossek, Hosszek and Osyek; it is interpreted as a cultural name associated with a forest stronghold built from tree trunks.

For a long time, Osiek was associated with the Rabsztyn starosty and was under the parish in Przeginia.

Jan Długosz documented Osiek for the first time between 1470 and 1480; the locality already existed in the 14th century.
