Osiek – Village History and Cycling Routes

Osiek is one of the villages with historically valuable settlement patterns and a valuable open landscape. Several old wooden houses have been preserved in the village. Olkusz has its own focus on urban history and mining traditions. The Silver Juggler Trail runs through the Old Town of Olkusz and is an educational and historical trail featuring 18 miner figures. It also includes more than 130 replicas of Olkusz trojaks set into the pavement—coins bearing the image of King Sigismund III Vasa.

At “Podziemny Olkusz,” exhibitions are housed in the cellars of the former 14th-century town hall and the former Royal Quarter. This was once the seat of the Olkusz mining authorities. Visitors can set models and replicas of historical mining equipment in motion themselves.

Another example is the Gothic Basilica of St. Andrew in Olkusz, built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Its most valuable work of art is a late-15th-century Gothic winged altarpiece, one of four such altarpieces in Poland.
