Culture and history

Schindler's factory is located in the surrounding area of Wieliczka. Wawel and Kraków – Zamek Królewski na Wawelu are also located in the surrounding area. In addition, „Kraków. Jaskinia Żydowska“, Kopiec Wandy, and Kopiec Krakusa are located there.

The mine preserves original underground corridors, ramps, mining chambers, lakes, wells, and shafts. They illustrate the development of mining over the centuries.

In 1978, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Wieliczka Castle dates back to the 13th century and historically served as the administrative seat of the Kraków Saltworks.

The Kraków Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka Castle presents a collection of salt vessels, Bronze Age objects, and exhibits on the history of Wieliczka.

The town center of Wieliczka preserves a checkerboard street pattern associated with the time of King Casimir the Great. The historic fortifications once had 29 towers; one tower from the 14th century has been preserved.
