Wielenin is described as one of the oldest villages in the Gmina Uniejów municipality. In the past, the place belonged to the archbishops of Gniezno; the location privilege was granted in 1290.

Culture

In 1331, Wielenin was heavily damaged and plundered by the Teutonic Knights. The neighboring places of Uniejów and Spycimierz were also damaged during the same campaign.

The local parish in Wielenin was probably founded in the 14th century; the first written references date from the following century.

A parish school had existed in Wielenin since at least the 16th century. Visitation records from the 17th century mention a school building referred to as “domunculus”.

Wielenin is featured on one of 15 thematic information boards along the “Bulwary Nadwarciańskie Uniejów” educational trail on the Warta promenade. This board provides a specific reference point for placing the site in context.
