Sierpc: Churches, History and Open-Air Museum

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the monastery form Sierpc's largest historic architectural complex. Construction of the church began in 1483 during an epidemic, at the presumed site of an apparition of Mary to the cleric Andrzej of Sierpc. It was completed in 1488.

This origin story places the carvers' work and their desire to create a shared meeting place at the heart of the museum's history.
