Danków: Fortress Ruins, Church and Liswarta

In the eastern part of Danków, the ruins of Danków Fortress lie on the left bank of the Liswarta. Danków has bastion-style fortifications. The ruins of Danków Fortress are generally open to visitors. Danków is considered a historic locality near Lipie with preserved architectural monuments. In Danków, the river landscape and fortress complex meet on the left bank of the Liswarta. The bastion-style design adds another architectural aspect to the preserved ruins.

The preserved parts of Danków Fortress include the ruins of the Brama Krzepicka gate and a fragment of the wall of the so-called Dom Kasztelanowej. Danków Fortress is the only complex of its kind in Poland. Danków was home to a castle that belonged to the Warszycki family in the 17th century and later to the Poniński family. When viewing the preserved structures, the focus is therefore on a gate and a wall fragment.

The Church of Saint Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, in Danków is a masonry building constructed between 1641 and 1675. The original wooden Church of Saint Stanislaus in Danków already existed in the 13th century. A Stations of the Cross was established on the fortress ramparts surrounding the church. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Danków is a religious monument. The image of Our Lady of Danków was crowned on 25 May 2002. The masonry building and its wooden predecessor church point to different construction phases at the same site. As a religious monument, the sanctuary represents a distinct religious reference.

In 1238 and 1267, bishops gathered for assemblies in Danków. Danków is home to an obelisk commemorating a meeting of Piast princes. Danków also has a collective war grave for Konstanty Kolada, Ignacy Matejas, Stefan Szmaj and Zawadziński, as well as five unknown soldiers of the 83rd Polesie Rifle Regiment from Kobryn, who fell on 1 September 1939. The obelisk commemorates a meeting of Piast princes, while the war grave preserves the memory of named and unknown fallen soldiers.

The marked Liswarta kayaking trail runs through Danków. The Danków–Zawady section of the Liswarta kayaking trail includes two portages and numerous rapids. When paddling, a portage is a section where the boat is carried overland; rapids are fast-flowing, turbulent stretches of water. Anyone including this section in their travel plans can take the two specific route features into account in advance. For this section, that means that, in addition to paddling, two portages and numerous turbulent stretches of water form part of the route description.

In the wider region surrounding Danków, Lipie is located in the Wyżyna Wieluńska upland, near the northern border of the Silesian Voivodeship. The Liswarta flows through Lipie.
