It was organized by the Centrum Edukacji Ekologicznej and the Klub Miłośników Ptaków. The route went from Ełk via Rękusy, Ruska Wieś, Rogale, Lake Sawinda, and Lake Sunowo, before returning to Ełk. It lasted 3.5 hours and had 12 participants. As a one-off event, the trip is a point of historical reference, not a regularly recurring offering.

Two other memorial sites are located outside Rękusy in the wider region. On Góra Pilchowa, graves of German and Russian soldiers who died during the hostilities of 1914–1918 lie hidden among the trees. In Bartosze, there is a cemetery dating from the Second World War. The remains of more than 24,000 soldiers and civilians lie there; it is the largest cemetery of its kind in Warmia and Masuria.

The two sites differ both in period and in type of memorial: Góra Pilchowa is associated with graves from 1914–1918, while Bartosze has a cemetery dating from the Second World War. This distinction helps separate regional historical themes from those directly associated with Rękusy.
