Kuty is also home to a former Protestant cemetery. The art and history of the village thus span a Baroque Madonna, a Gothic crucifix, and the recorded history of the churches’ construction.

How should the lakeside location be understood?

Czarna Kuta is the lake on which Kuty is situated. It is distinct from the smaller lakes in the immediate vicinity: Głęboka Kuta, Wilkus, Brząs, Biała Kuta, Mszar (Kacze), Krzywa Kuta, Piłackie, Smolak, Piecek, Pozezdrze, and Rominty. This distinction helps separate the village’s immediate location from the waters in its surroundings.

The regional setting also adds context to the map: Kuty lies on the border between the East Masurian Lake District and the Great Masurian Lakes region. It is also within the Kraina Wielkich Jezior Protected Landscape Area and a Natura 2000 area. These geographical details describe different aspects of the village’s location without presenting them as a single excursion destination.

What stories and routes shape the village?

At the legend sites in Kuty, visitors can learn, among other things, the legend of Mateusz and Celestyn Myślęta, the story of a sunken bell, and tales about the queen and the prince of Kut. Alongside the churches, these oral traditions offer another way to explore the village’s history.

The “Szlakiem mazurskich legend i opowieści” cycling route is 102 kilometres long and passes through Kuty. If you plan to use it for a specific ride, check its current route and condition in advance. Distinct from this is the historical walk described by Mieczysław Orłowicz before the First World War: it led from the church in Kuty to Lake Wilkus and on to a mill in a picturesque setting, then via Przerwanki and Lake Gołdopiwo, through the forest to Jakunówko, and back to Kuty along the main road.

The description of this walk also mentions a beautiful view of Lake Krzywa Kuta, surrounded by forests. This view is part of the historical travel account; the walk is not a current route description. For orientation, it is therefore important to distinguish between the named cycling route and the historical walk: only the cycling route has a stated distance, while Orłowicz’s account describes an earlier excursion.
