Finiș Commune lies at the foot of the Codru-Moma Mountains on the left bank of the Crișul Negru.

Landscape

The commune is largely covered by forests, pastureland and agricultural areas. The Valea Finișului and smaller watercourses shape a varied relief with steep slopes, low plateaus and wooded ridges.

The ROSCI 0042 Codru Moma protected area comprises beech forests, oak-hornbeam forests, alluvial forests, as well as rocky and steep-slope habitats. Protected wolves, brown bears and lynxes have been documented in the Codru Moma protected area associated with FiniÈ™.

In the vicinity of Finiş Commune are Vârful Halaşului, a peak, Piatra Pontului, a mountain, Teiuş, a mountain, and Iermani, a peak. The diverse natural landscape of Finiș offers favourable conditions for rural tourism, hiking and outdoor activities.

Sub Piatra Finișului and Vârful Devii are designated viewpoints in Finiș. In the Valea Finișului area, visitors can go hiking, horse riding, travel by non-motorised vehicles and go on cycling tours; thematic trails are not marked on site.

Culture

The Cetatea medievală de la Finiş, also known as Cetatea Belovar and cetatea lui Bella, is an archaeological site south of the village of Finiş. It dates from the 13th to the 14th century. The fortress is surrounded on three sides by a defensive moat 15 metres wide and 8 metres deep. Its strategic location served to defend the access route to Oradea.

The Schitul Huta was built in 1927 and restored in 1973. In the vicinity of Finiş Commune are Biserica Fiziş, a church, Biserica Ortodoxă Finiş, an Orthodox church, and Biserica Reformată Ioaniş, a Reformed church. Biserica Petrani, a church, is also located in the vicinity of Finiş Commune.

Finiș is associated with violin making and the tradition of the Vioara cu goarnă, the so-called horn violin; this tradition is also attributed to Budureasa and Lazuri de Roșia. The Muzeul Satului din Finiș displays objects that are more than 100 years old.

Getting There

The main road access to Finiș is via county road DJ 764 on the Beiuș–Finiș–Stâncești route. No railway line passes through Finiș; the nearest railway station is in Beiuș and offers only limited connections.

Oradea International Airport is approximately 75 km northwest of FiniÈ™ and can be reached via DN76 and E79. Schitul Huta can be accessed from BeiuÈ™ via county road DJ764F towards FiniÈ™ (4 km), followed by a further 12 kilometres on a forest road.
