Urvind: Fair, Churches and Nature

Urvind is associated with the historic fair Târgul Corvinilor – Târgul de 500 de Ani. The fair was originally held between Urvind, Lugașu de Jos, Țetchea and Telechiu on the Crișul Repede. One section was dedicated to animals, while the other featured household and everyday goods. These two sections alone illustrate the connection between agricultural daily life and a practical range of goods that characterizes the historic nature of this event.

Culture and History

A multicultural event in Urvind brought together traditional Hungarian and Slovak groups. Schoolgirls and schoolboys performed traditional Hungarian and Slovak dances. The event also included a gastronomy competition featuring traditional Hungarian cuisine and local products. Music, dance and culinary contributions stood alongside one another, giving the cultural theme several distinct facets.

Urvind was first mentioned in writing in 1282 under the names Uluend or Vluend. The church in Urvind is documented as having belonged to the Reformed Church from 1590 onward. Sándor Laskai was the first known pastor of the Urvind congregation in 1598. The project also included the construction of eight presentation huts. The area and the number of huts identify the two different components of the project: the greening of a defined area and the additional construction of presentation facilities.
