Thermal Water and Water Lily

The spring temperatures of the mineral waters of Băile Felix range between 40 and 49 °C; the waters are classified as oligomineral waters. From April to the end of October, the thermal water lily appears on the surface of the water. Its flowers open at dusk and close in the morning.

The thermal water lily (Nymphaea lotus var. Thermalis) was declared a natural monument in 1931. The first thermal water lily plants were relocated to the Lacul cu Nuferi nature reserve in Băile Felix in 2015.

Nature and Activities

In a microclimate shaped by thermal springs, the white water lily (Nymphaea alba), Indian lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), thermal water lily and bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) grow. Felix Forest near Băile Felix has paths for walking and hiking as well as a jogging track.

In the immediate vicinity of Băile Felix lies Betfia Cave, an 86-metre-deep limestone cave with a bat colony. ATV excursions are possible in the forest around Băile Felix and on the surrounding hills.

Horse-riding excursions are offered in natural surroundings; on request, trips by cart or carriage can also be arranged.
