The Faleza Dunării offers a 7-kilometre riverside promenade with an extensive collection of monuments and sculptures.

Culture and History

The Centrul Cultural “Nicăpetre” was founded in 2001 to display the work of the sculptor Nicăpetre donated to the Muzeul Brăilei “Carol I”. After renovation, it reopened to the public on 12 November 2010.

The Muzeul Brăilei “Carol I” was founded in 1881 by royal decree. It comprises departments for archaeology, natural sciences, ethnography and folk art, as well as fine and decorative art.

The Casa Memorială “Panait Istrati” is located in a gardener’s house built at the beginning of the 20th century in the Neo-Romanian style. Since 1984, it has housed the “Panait Istrati” memorial exhibition, which displays manuscripts, personal belongings, furniture, signed books, rare editions and documentary photographs.

The Casa Memorială “Fănuș Neagu” is located in the writer’s birthplace in the commune of Grădiștea and was converted into a museum in 2011. It includes a biographical and bibliographical section and a photographic documentary section featuring portraits, books, personal belongings, writing utensils, medals and diplomas. The museum also includes an ethnographic section with household items, tools, carpets and typical interior elements of a peasant house from the Bărăgan.

Măxineni Monastery was founded in 1636–1637 by the Wallachian prince Matei Basarab and is considered one of the most important historical landmarks in Brăila County. “Sfântul Pantelimon” Monastery was founded in 1996 and is located in the spa resort of Lacu Sărat.

The theatre in Brăila has an auditorium decorated in the Italian style with 369 seats, as well as a studio theatre space. Its foyers can be used for concerts, meetings and events.

Nature and Landscape

Balta Mică a Brăilei lies on one of the most important bird migration corridors in the lower Danube basin; 207 bird species have been recorded there. The Balta Mică a Brăilei Nature Park has 15 tourist routes by water and land. The nature park can only be accessed by water, by boat via one of the Danube branches.

In the Balta Mică a Brăilei Nature Park, Lacul Chiriloaia is an observation point for rare bird species. Zoo Eco Brăila is committed to protecting and preserving endangered species and displays recreated habitats ranging from lush forests to deserts.

Lacul Sărat contains therapeutic mud with a very high degree of mineralisation. The spa resort of Lacu Sărat is described as a green oasis with beneficial effects on the human body.

Cuisine

The free Visit Brăila app provides tourists with information about attractions, restaurants and various experiences in Brăila. It also presents fish-based recipes and recipes influenced by the region’s ethnic groups.

At the Festivalul Peștelui, held from 19 to 22 September at the Faleza Dunării, carp in brine, fish soup, fish plachie and fish burgers were prepared under the guidance of Chef Horia Vârlan.

Geographical Location

The road connection to Constanța runs via the DN 21 to Însurăței, the DN 21A to Țăndărei and then via the E 15 near Vadul Oii; the distance is 210 km.
