Vadu: Coast, Danube Delta and Archaeological Sites

Vadu is one of the settlements in Constanța County bordering the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. Visitors can explore the area through specific names, time periods and directions: culture, nature and coast stand alongside one another as separate focal points.

Culture

Vadu is home to the Orthodox Church of Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil, dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Construction of the parish church of Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil in Vadu began during the population exchange of 1940. When placing it in its historical context, you can consider the church as a separate section alongside the archaeological sites.

The Vadu–Ghiaur–Chioi archaeological site is located on a promontory at the southern end of Lake Sinoe, 2 km north of the Rare Metals Enterprise. It comprises a settlement of the Greco-Getic culture from the La Tène period, dating from the 6th to the 4th century BC, as well as a medieval necropolis from the 16th to the 18th century. You can consider the combination of location, culture and period as three distinct levels of historical classification.

The Vadu–Bardalia archaeological site is a Roman and Romano-Byzantine settlement; its Roman phase dates from the 2nd to the 4th century. The Karaharman Fortress is located on the grounds of the Rare Metals Enterprise in Vadu and dates to the modern period, from the 17th to the 19th century. Nature

The beaches of Vadu–Corbu on the Chituc sandbar are considered the only remaining nesting site in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve for the Rufous-tailed Pratincole, also known as the Greater Pratincole.

In the undeveloped coastal areas near Vadu that are of tourist interest, access, driving, staying and parking motor vehicles of any kind are prohibited.
