At the School Museum of Şcoala Generală nr. 1 Moreni, Moreni presents an extensive collection: more than 3,000 exhibits are displayed across approximately 200 m². These include ethnographic objects, examples of folk art, records and documents relating to oil history, old books, and paintings of considerable historical significance.

Culture

The Biserica „Schimbarea la faţă“ in Moreni was built in 1868. The Biserica „Adormirea Maicii Domnului“ – „Sf. Dimitrie“ din Stavropoleos was built between 1891 and 1895.

Oil History

In 1913, with 981,953 tonnes of crude oil, Moreni recorded Romania’s highest oil production until the country entered the First World War. In 1926, the company „Astra Română“ commissioned a Bayer degasolinisation plant in Moreni-Cricov. It had a capacity of 13 tonnes of gasoline per day and is considered the largest in Europe.

On 28 May 1929, an oil fire broke out at well 160 „Româno-Americană“ in Moreni. The fire lasted almost three years and is considered the largest fire in Europe recorded during drilling operations at an oil well.

Landscape

The Cricovul Dulce River crosses the centre of Moreni over a length of 7.2 km. Piscuri is a peak in the immediate vicinity of Moreni.

Other peaks in the area around Moreni include Dealul Hihireţului, Gâlma cu Corni and La Copacul Ocolit.

Documented cycling routes lead from Moreni to neighbouring towns and attractions. These include the Trei Ierarhi Church, the ruins of Conacului Matei și Toma Cantacuzino, the Sfânta Treime Măgureni Church, the ruins of Conacului Drăghici Cantacuzino and the Dacian fortress near Iedera.
