DancaÈ™: MaramureÈ™ Church Architecture and Historical Traces

The parish church of DancaÈ™ was built in the MaramureÈ™ architectural style and is dedicated to the holy emperors Constantine and Helena. The church site was blessed on March 13, 1999; the consecration followed on July 8, 2018.

Culture and Church Architecture

Construction began on September 26, 2013, with the laying of the foundation stone. Maramureș craftsmen under the direction of Vasile Bârsan from Bârsana in Maramureș County built the church in 2014 up to the eaves level in Bârsana. On July 1, 2015, the wooden church was brought to Dancaș; its assembly began there. The Dancaș parish was established in 2002, and on June 19, 2011, the first episcopal liturgy in its history took place. In addition, the Dancaș parish announced a second patronal feast. The third patron saint recorded for the church of Dancaș is the holy martyr Fanurie, after the holy emperors Constantine and Helena. DancaÈ™ and Horpaz share a cemetery. The present-day Church of Saint Demetrius in Horpaz was built in 1935 by the residents of Horpaz and DancaÈ™. In Ciurbești, the wooden Church of Saint Nicholas stands at the edge of the village as a cemetery church. It is reached from the county road via a steep access road; its grounds offer an exceptional view of the village. The Sturdza Palace in Miroslava currently houses the Ethnographic Museum of Moldavian Agriculture and the school library. The palace was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the family of the Moldavian boyar Vasile Beldiman. The Fânețele Seculare Valea lui David nature reserve is located in the municipality of Miroslava.
