Culture

The Palatul Culturii houses four museums of national importance. The Muzeul de Istorie a Moldovei in the Palatul Culturii presents the development of the princely court of Iași.

The Muzeul Mihai Eminescu consists of three halls: two on the ground floor – the Sala Destinului with a zodiac mosaic and the Sala de Arta – as well as the Sala Prieteniei on the upper floor.

The Muzeul Sitului Arheologic Cucuteni protects a princely tomb dating from the 4th to the 3rd century BC and displays original archaeological artefacts from the Cucuteni culture. The building of the Muzeul Sitului Arheologic Cucuteni provides an overall view of the sectioned tumulus.

The Palatul „Alexandru Ioan Cuza“ de la Ruginoasa, which today houses the Muzeul Memorial „Alexandru Ioan Cuza“, still preserves features of the Neo-Gothic style.

The Mănăstirea Sfinții Trei Ierarhi was built by Vasile Lupu between 1637 and 1639. Its exterior is adorned with stone ornaments and resembles stone lace.

The Mănăstirea Cetățuia preserves a fortified complex with high stone walls, battlements and a covered wall-walk, a monumental entrance tower, and four corner towers for defence.

The Bojdeuca Ion Creangă in Èšicău was opened to the public on 15 April 1918, thereby becoming Romania's first literary memorial museum. Ion Creangă wrote all his stories and the well-known „Amintiri din Copilărie“ in the Bojdeuca.

The Casa Pogor served as the headquarters of the „Junimea“ Literary Society.

Nature

Parcul Expoziției is a park of approximately 5.4 hectares on Copou Hill. It offers two spacious children's playgrounds as well as a specially designed skateboarding area.

Parcul Copou is IaÈ™i's oldest city park and was laid out in 1833. At its centre stands the Monument of the Organic Regulations, known as the „Obeliscul cu lei“. The linden tree in Parcul Copou known as Teiul lui Eminescu is estimated to be more than 450 years old.

The Grădina Botanică Iași extends over approximately 100 hectares and includes lakes and mineral-water springs. The traditional annual exhibitions of the Grădina Botanică Iași bring together scientific plant collections and are of particular interest to visitors from Romania and abroad.

The Grădina Palas offers a comprehensive view of the Palatul Culturii.

Wine

The Cotnari wine-growing area covers more than 1,750 hectares and includes grape varieties such as Grasă de Cotnari, Tămâioasă Românească, Frâncușă and Fetească Albă. Crama Cotnari has 15 cellars extending over more than 2 km and is considered the winery's main tourist attraction. A reservation is required to visit Crama Cotnari; a package with three wine tastings is offered.

Activities and Events

The „7 Coline pe bicicletă“ activity route runs over the seven hills of Galata, Cetăţuia, Repedea, Bucium, Åžorogari, Breazu and Copou and is 60 km long. It runs mainly along unpaved paths; numerous return routes to the city also make it possible to complete only part of the route.

The Muzeul „Vasile Pogor“ hosts cultural events, exhibitions, fairs and activities for children. The House of Museums and the Pogor Museum organise readings, workshops and other events, including for particularly vulnerable groups.

Public Transport

Public transport in Iași includes trams, buses and minibuses. Payment by POS terminal on board is possible.
