Fersig between forests, water and culture

Fersig is part of an area of high terraces, predominantly characterized by forests and natural meadows. To a lesser extent, fruit growing and crop cultivation are practiced there. You can consider nature and culture as separate areas of focus.

Nature

Pădurea Bavna is a 26-hectare forest nature reserve of national interest, classified as IUCN Category IV, in the administrative area of Satulung commune, in the village of Fersig. Pedunculate oaks more than 150 years old grow in this area. In spring, the checkered lily (Fritillaria meleagris), which has been declared a natural monument, blooms there.

Valea Oanii is a watercourse in Fersig and part of the hydrological network of Satulung commune. The forest of Fersig is considered particularly rich in edible mushrooms. A colony of grey herons breeds in the forest of Fersig. Culture and history

The Biserica Ortodoxa Fersig was built between 1929 and 1933 from bricks on a concrete foundation. Historically, the Biserica din Fersig bears the patronage of “Pogorârea Sfântului Duh”. By October 2018, numerous reconstruction and rehabilitation works had been carried out at the Biserica din Fersig; they had begun in 2008.

Getting there

The Baia Mare–București Nord railway line crosses Satulung commune from northeast to southwest. It has a railway station in Satulung and a halt in Fersig.
