Culture
In Stâna, in the commune of Comuna Socond, stands the wooden church “Intrarea Maicii Domnului în Biserică”. It dates from the 18th century, approximately from 1778, and has a porch supported by carved wooden posts. Fragments of a wall painting from the late 18th or early 19th century have been preserved on the vault of the naos; the painting is badly damaged.
The Satu Mare County Museum includes the wooden church of Soconzel in its activities promoting cultural heritage and in its museum education programs. The vicinity of Comuna Socond also contains the Mânăstirea Sfântul Apostol Andrei monastery, the Biserica Ortodoxă Medişa Orthodox church, the Biserica Ortodoxă Solduba Orthodox church, and the Biserica Ortodoxă Sfinţii Arhangheli Mihail şi Gavriil Orthodox church.
The Heroes’ Monument is located on county road DJ193F between Socond and Soconzel. The monumental ensemble of Socond on this county road contains the graves of 28 Romanian soldiers. The Heroes’ Monument there commemorates the heroes who lost their lives in the Second World War. Between Cuța and Soconzel lies the site where the first Orthodox monastery in the Satu Mare region was founded almost 400 years ago.
At the wooden church of Soconzel, the “Rădăcini și culori: întâlniri la ceas de seară” program included a workshop on traditional glass painting inspired by folk icons, as well as a presentation about wooden churches.
Festivals and Local Cuisine
“Danțu’ la șură” takes place in Soconzel every year on the second day of Easter. The entire village community of Soconzel, as well as people from the neighboring villages of Cuța, Stâna, and Hodișa, take part. The traditional event takes place in a villager’s barn selected by community representatives; traditional violinists are hired for the occasion.
“La Digănie” combines traditional dances with tastings of local dishes, including homemade cakes and slices of bread spread with lard. The event in Hodișa is considered the local counterpart to “Danțu’ la șură” in Soconzel.
Nature
The vicinity of Comuna Socond contains Mount Virful Lespezi and the hills Dealul Vacii, Dealul Verticelu, and Dealul Crucii. Hodișa has an artificial dam with a water surface of 12 hectares. The Valea Maria River stretches for 10 km.
