Heltau: Wool-Weaving History, Mountain Panorama and Cycle Path

Heltau, now Cisnădie, was founded eight centuries ago. The history of the town is closely linked to wool processing. The guild of wool weavers is documented from 1513 and received numerous privileges in 1729. This guild history marked the beginning of a development that continued during the communist era in industrial textile production. At that time, Cisnădie was known as a center of the textile industry. Wool carpets made in Cisnădie were sold worldwide. Wool processing therefore shaped both the guild system and the later industrial direction of textile production. Craft tradition and communist industrial history follow one another chronologically in Cisnădie.

The fortified Protestant church in Cisnădie includes a clock tower. The church combines a religious building with a fortification and the historic clock tower.
