At the center of the Moldoviţa Monastery complex stands the Buna Vestire Church, with an open porch and a tower at the pronaos. The present-day Buna Vestire Church of Moldoviţa Monastery was built in 1532; its exterior paintings were completed in 1537. The Moldoviţa Monastery Museum is housed in the clişarniţă.
Hiking and Landscapes
Via Transilvanica passes through Vatra Moldoviței via the Bucovina Hills to the Mestecăniş Pass in Pojorâta. The Bucovina section of Via Transilvanica runs from Putna Monastery through Vatra Moldoviței to Poiana Stampei. Hiking trails on Obcina Mare begin in Vatra Moldoviței. The two references to Via thus differ in their respective starting and ending points, while the reference to Obcina Mare denotes the start of a separate hiking trail.
For planning your own trip, these route references and the trailhead can be considered separately. Different themes do not need to be combined into a single day program: culture, longer routes and individual landscape destinations are independent options. The geographical references mentioned include both a route section passing through the town and larger landscape areas, as well as a trailhead on Obcina Mare.
In the immediate surroundings of Vatra Moldoviței are Mount Runcul Boului, the Vârful Ciocanului peak, the Dealul Vasile peak and Mount Dealul Arşiţa Tanului. The different designations as mountain and peak give the landscape features their own character, without combining them into a single destination. For orientation purposes, these four names therefore remain separate landscape references.
Culture and History
The ruins of the Buna Vestire Church are located at the entrance to Vatra Moldoviței, 300 metres from the present-day monastery. Mânăstirea Moldoviţa Monastery is located in the immediate surroundings of Vatra Moldoviței. The distinction between the present-day church and the ruins clearly keeps the two historical references to Buna Vestire separate.
Mânâstirea Secrieş Monastery is located in the surroundings of Vatra Moldoviței. The Biserica Ortodoxă Vatra Moldoviţei Orthodox Church and the Biserica Ortodoxă Paltinu Orthodox Church are each located in the immediate surroundings of Vatra Moldoviței. For cultural classification, the monastery, church and ruins thus have different geographical relationships to the town. Together, the destinations mentioned do not form a single cultural monument, but rather several separate points of interest in the surrounding area.
When planning an overnight stay in Vatra Moldoviței, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered as separate details. This keeps the accommodation information clear alongside the cultural and route references described, without combining the paths, monasteries and landscape features into a single program. When comparing hotels, these details can be checked separately: travel dates refer to the selected period, the room category to the desired selection and cancellation conditions to the applicable rules. This keeps the practical accommodation details distinct from the churches, monasteries, paths and landscape features mentioned.
There is a tourist information centre in the municipality of Vatra Moldoviței.
