Bazoșu Nou: Arboretum, Local History and Routes

Nature

Since 1994, Bazoș Dendrological Park has been designated a protected area to protect the biodiversity of the gene pool and ecological fund. The arboretum lies on the flat plain of the Timiș and Bega rivers at an elevation of 95–97 m. The dendrological park includes Parcul Mare, Parcul American and several nurseries for cultivating exotic species.

The park is home to the oldest oak tree in Timiș County. It is over 500 years old, has a circumference of 6 m and is 30 m tall.

The information about nature ranges from the broad geographical setting to the individual oak tree: the park can be understood both through its area and plant diversity and through its named sections and ancient specimen. These different scales complement one another without reducing the dendrological park to just one characteristic.

Culture and History

The “Cuv. Paraschiva” Church in Bazoșu Nou was built in 1961. Bazoșu Nou was founded in 1926, when 26 families from Transylvania were settled there, more precisely from Tălmăcel in the commune of Tălmaciu near Sibiu. In Hungarian, the locality was called Határpuszta and was also known as “Colonia Hotar”.

The local history thus combines a founding date, the origins of the settled families and former names of the locality. The construction of the church adds a separate date of construction to this historical context, while the Hungarian names document the locality’s former designation.

Bazoșu Nou’s Ruga Day is on October 14. At the 2023 edition of Ruga satului Bazoșu Nou, held at the Bazoșu Nou Cultural Centre, authentic folklore, local dances and traditional clothing were presented.

Routes

When planning your routes, you can distinguish between length and course. Traseu 5 is 21 km long. The route leads from Lunca Timișului via Pădurea Giroc and the Timiș embankment to Bazoșu Nou Dendrological Park.

The route from Timișoara to Bazoșu Nou Dendrological Park leads through Rudicica, Urseni, Moșnița Nouă, Moșnița Veche and Bucovăț to the park.

The two route descriptions emphasize different aspects: for Traseu 5, the stated length is the focus, while the connection from Timișoara can be followed through the sequence of place names. This makes it possible to compare the distance and course for Bazoșu Nou separately.

Getting to the Arboretum

Access to Bazoș Arboretum is provided by Remetea Mare railway station, the DN6 national road between Timișoara and Remetea Mare, and the Remetea Mare–Bucovăț–Bazoșu Nou county road.
