Hotel in Vič – Drau Cycle Path and Culture
Cycling
The Drau Cycle Path is part of the European cycle route network. In Dravograd, it runs from the Vič border crossing through the town center of Dravograd and onward across the bridge to Bukovje in the direction of Trbonje. This means that the route around Vič is connected to a supraregional cycle network, without the route being limited to the locality itself.
Cyclists can continue along the Drau Cycle Path on the right bank of the Drau toward Vuzenica and Maribor. Another route leads across the Trbonje Bridge to the left bank of the Drau and then via Gortina and Muta toward Radlje. The route then climbs over the Radeljski prelaz into the Austrian region of Styria. The stated directions and the change between the two banks of the Drau make the route understandable as a branching cycle route.
Culture
The settlement of Vič is designated as an archaeological area in the ordinance of the Municipality of Dravograd. On the southeastern edge of Vič stands the Urkova Chapel on the right side of the road from Dravograd to Vič. Eberwein Castle, a castle, is also located in the nearby area. Rabenstein is a ruin in the vicinity of Vič, while Sankt Josef is located there as a monastery. Ehrnegg Castle is a castle in the wider regional surroundings of Vič.
Other notable landmarks are located directly along roads and at farmsteads. Jelenkova kašča is situated at the Jelenko farmstead, directly on the national border. It is a brick-built granary with exceptionally rich Baroque façade detailing. Blažejevo znamenje stands on the road from Vič toward Feldhof. It is a narrow, elongated brick-built wayside shrine with a broad, four-sided shingle roof topped by a sphere with a cross.
Blažejevo znamenje contains a single flat niche with a figure of the Virgin Mary; saints are depicted on the side walls. Thus, both the external form and the design of the niche and side walls remain recognizable in this structure. Jelenkova kašča and Blažejevo znamenje are located at different reference points: one at the Jelenko farmstead directly on the national border, the other on the road toward Feldhof.
The cultural heritage of the locality also includes the organ of the branch church of St. Leonard in Vič pri Dravogradu. It is attributed to Andreas Schwarz and dated to 1723. In addition to the castles, the ruin, the monastery, and the smaller structures, this also adds a specific musical instrument with a named attribution and a year of dating.
Landscape
