Lendava can be explored through specific facets: historic buildings, museums, the glazed observation deck of the Vinarium, trails, thermal water and local offerings. In the town, various reminders of its history stand alongside views of the landscape and designated routes.

Culture and history

Lendava Castle was first mentioned in 1192 in a deed of donation. Galerija-Muzej Lendava is based in Lendava Castle. The gallery in Lendava Castle preserves the artistic heritage of Lendava's artists, as well as a collection of artworks from traditional international artists' colonies.

The present-day Church of St Catherine in Lendava was built between 1749 and 1751. A crypt lies beneath its presbytery, where members of the Esterházy family are buried. Construction of the Lendava Synagogue began in 1866. Alongside the Maribor Synagogue, it is one of only two surviving synagogues in Slovenia and serves as an exhibition and events venue.

The Museum of Bourgeois Life, Printing and Umbrella Making presents the development of Lendava's bourgeoisie. Its exhibits include 19th-century pharmacy furnishings from Lendava, old printing presses, and documents and newspapers printed in Dolnja Lendava.

Landscape

The glazed observation deck of Vinarium Lendava offers views of the landscapes of Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. The top of Vinarium Lendava can be reached via 240 steps or by lift.

Activities

The Pot Vode in Nafte trail is an easy route that begins at Terme Lendava and offers 6.2 km and 3.2 km variants. Esterházyjeva pot is a moderately difficult 7.7 km route that also begins at Terme Lendava. Dolinska pot offers an easy hiking or cycling experience over 9.1 km.

The thermal water at Terme Lendava is used for recreation and relaxation. The Terme Lendava complex also includes a floating mill on the Mura, a press, a wooden granary, a fossil oak and a dugout canoe.

Culinary experiences

In addition to Vinarium Lendava, huts offer local culinary and oenological experiences. At the Katarinin sejem, local culinary products such as cheese, honey and meat products, lángos and cakes are available.

Events

Katarinin sejem takes place every year on 25 November and revives Lendava's historic fair tradition. In addition to the culinary products mentioned above, handicrafts are also offered there. Gledališka in koncertna dvorana Lendava hosts events in the fields of theatre, music, visual arts and film.
